happy anniversary to me

A year ago today, I had packed up the last of the boxes from my desk, and said my good-bye's. I had quit my "real" job... after five years there - a year and a half of those five of doing photography on the side - I decided that I no longer needed to have the security of a job with a steady paycheck. I'm normally pretty cautious about things like that. Never a risk-taker. Something in me knew I'd make it work... and then there were my friends who gave me the final push I needed.

I was a month from having Everett. I was so excited. A little nervous, but very excited. It is funny the difference a year makes. I cannot imagine trying to spread myself yet another place 20 hours a week again. My business has boomed, and I am so grateful that I found what I wanted to do with my life. (Although I think Mark knew it first... way back before I even dreamed of being a photographer, he bought me a book called "How to Start a Home-Based Photography Business." I wondered what he was smoking... I just wanted more information on how to get the camera off of automatic mode!) It isn't always easy being your own boss, and when you have your own business, your personal life is intertwined with your professional life 24/7.

But then again, there aren't many jobs where you could sit and have a glass of wine while you did your work, either.

Here's to my first year of being a risk-taker:-) I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have many more.
