old friend

The pictures in this post are from my very first digital SLR. It is a Canon Digital Rebel - the original one that came out in the fall of 2003. It was a BIG deal for me to order that camera and the extras I knew I'd need. It took some serious sweet-talkin' to Mark to convince him that I really NEEDED this camera. It had just been introduced onto the market as the first somewhat affordable digital SLR. So in the middle of a hurricane, when we were stuck inside, I clicked the "buy" button. It was paid for with my first few clients.

I used that camera exclusively for over a year. On vacation, it got knocked over off a tripod, smashing my first 50 mm lens. The following day, I accidentally dunked it in the ocean, ruining my battery grip. (It was an expensive trip:-) Amazingly, it still works just as well as the day I bought it. I now use a Canon 20D for all of my client work, and will probably upgrade again within the next few months. But I still tote my Rebel along to the park, and although it is painfully s-l-o-w compared to my 20D, I love it. Many of the images on my website, and some of my favorite images of all time, were taken with this camera. You don't always need the fanciest, most expensive equipment to take the images you love the most:-)

Miller's contribution of the day. Lovely, eh?

Oooh...I so remember the slow motion of the tripod going over. Hopefully, this will be a less eventful year at the beach.

How cute is Everett? I can't wait to see him. Will this be his first visit to the beach?
