ridin' the rails
Gray is a train FANATIC. We can't even cross non-working railroad tracks without him screeching from the backseat... "A TRAIN! A TRAIN! LOOK MOM! A TRAIN!" Calling him obsessed wouldn't not be overstating his feelings for trains. So a few weekends ago we took the boys to a real working train and we went on a ride. The place we went only does it once a month on a Sunday, and because it was their centennial celebration that day, the lines were lonnnnnnng. But the kids were great, and Gray loved getting to ride on a train for the first time in his life.
The worst part of the trip BY FAR was the porta-potty. There was no choice but to use it, and I still gag thinking about it. I hadn't used one since a lawn party in college (after many, many drinks) and I hope I can live the rest of my life without ever seeing the inside of one again.
The trip was worth it, though. The boys had a good time and it was a fun Sunday afternoon outing. Porta-potty and all:-)

Can the Tweetsie Railroad be far behind? Does it still exist?

if you're looking for a longer train ride, check out this website. they offer all sorts of excursions, including their own "polar express".
