back from vacation

Last weekend we returned from another trip to Fripp Island, SC. We were there for a week, and it was a unanimous decision that one week is just not long enough. By the time I had made it through my hormonal funk, the week was already half over. So sad.

The boys had a fantastic time, as usual. Miller learned how to boogie board, and with his shaggy blonde hair, looked the part of a surfer boy. Gray was not nearly as scared this time, and spent most of the time in the water and not clinging to his father's leg. Everett wasn't interested in getting more than calf-deep in the water, and spent most of his days digging in the sand and taking off down the beach (requiring retrieval, of course.) My idea of lounging, Diet Coke in hand, iPod on, while reading a magazine... well, let's just say that did not happen much. Things were MUCH different since Everett was all over the place this time. (Our last trip to Fripp was in 2006 and he was not walking yet.)

We all came home tanner, the boys all blonder. And fatter, thanks to the massive amounts of alcohol and delicious food consumed every night at European dining hours. I think we had shrimp 4 or 5 times over the course of the week and I never got sick of it. (And of course had to make a pitstop at the Gay Fish Co. on the way home to pick up some for home.)

Four more weeks until school starts back for Miller and Gray... thank you GOD. All of this summer togetherness is driving both me and Mark crazy. I knew it was bad yesterday when Mark had to start using his mean voice.

Hoping the next month flies by...

Dear Family:

What a pleasure to hang out with everyone for a week. I agree that we need MORE time -- another week would be perfect.

Oh my goodness, what a joyous and treasured time. We went camping with family this past week too. Unfortunately, due to burn out on my part, I took almost NO pictures. I'm feeling quite guilty now of that time we missed capturing. I WILL ADMIT that i enjoyed NOT having my camera with me, but these are fantastic Gretchen, just fantastic! I hope to meet your family one day soon my friend!!!
