five

Five years ago today, I gave birth to a big and healthy baby boy, that sweet boy with the dimple in his right cheek. He's come so far in these five years, particularly in this last one. Numbers and letters have FINALLY clicked with him. He's asking us more deep and probing questions. The other day he told me he didn't ever want to die. (Me either, buddy.) His enthusiasm for life is something that makes me smile every single day. He is the kid who never cares if he doesn't get something if his brothers do... he is excited FOR them. I wish I could just bottle up his sweetness and save it forever.

We made a big deal of him turning five. Miller went to school, we dropped off Everett at PMO, and spent the morning letting Gray spend his birthday money from Grandma Donna. He picked out a Thomas DVD... I'm sure it is the last year for that. After dinner, we finally got to eat some of the long-awaited Thomas cake. He'd spied this at the grocery store probably 6 or 8 months ago, and has been talking about it ever since. And let me tell you, even five people don't make a dent in this whopper. Cake, anyone?

This morning, right after checking the length of his legs and determining that yes, they HAD grown overnight, he told me "I'm excited to grow up, mommy."

I'm excited to get the chance to watch you grow up, sweetest boy.

Happy Birthday, Gray! I can't believe he is five - I remember going to see you guys in the hospital, and discovering his dimple:)

Also, could he look anymore like Mark?
