super dad
I'm a bad blog updater lately, I know. The whole Mark's job thing hit us at the same time that we're dealing with a rotten chimney (and it being repaired by my brother...which could be an entire topic it itself. The title would be "Hiring a relative is a sure sign you must be high on crack") And the fact that we owe a five-figure tax bill this year, ie: tomorrow. Updating my blog keeps popping up on my list, and keeps getting pre-empted by life.
Having Mark home has been amazing. I always knew he would be a great stay-at-home-dad, but it isn't anything we would have tried out on purpose. And while chances are this is not a permanent situation, it is a nice break for all of us. Mark has gotten to spend so much time with the boys and they love it. Mark and I have actually been able to - GASP! - sit on the couch together and watch the occasional episode of "Brothers & Sisters" (love it!) or a movie. His dismissal/resignation also coincided with us getting DVR and about a billion extra channels on digital cable. We've been putting it to good use. I have twenty sessions booked in April, which is ridiculous for anyone other than, say, Olan Mills. Just too many clients, but desperate times call for desperate measures. I'm working hard for the money. (Bet you're humming that song now, huh?)
Having Mark home an extra 50+ hours a week has been like someone lifting about 348 pounds of lead off my shoulders. Not always having to be the sole Appointment Person, the Get Them Up and Bathed and Dressed and Out of the House Person, the Make Them Dinner Person (okay, so sometimes making them dinner consists of pouring a bowl of Frosted Flakes), and the Try To Work While the Kids Are Beating the Shit Out of Each Other person has been soooo refreshing!
Oh, and the very super best part? We are actually seeing a tiny little glimpse of the people we fell in love with so many years ago. We are even NICE to each other. And we have KISSED ON THE LIPS at times other than telling each other good-bye. Added benefit? Completely grossing out the kids.
Unemployment. It is TOTALLY underrated.

'bout time! I was getting ready to issue "update the damn blog" orders again.
Gretchen! You sound so amazing....relaxed and happy. I'm not sure I've ever heard that from you :) What a great arrangement, don't you wish you would have tried it years ago?! And kissing.... on the lips? Who does that? :-p
