mr. six

It is hard to imagine a boy more excited to turn six.

Gray loves ALL birthdays (what's not to like about cake?), so you can imagine how he felt about his own big day. The child who could sleep through an Amtrak train crashing through the front door was wide awake at 3:00 a.m. asking me if he was six yet. (Technically, he was, since he was born at 12:40 a.m.) He also asked me a few hours later if he'd be starting 1st grade that day, now that he was 6 and all.

I took cupcakes (made by Mark - love you, honey!) to him at school. Unlike Miller who was always slightly mortified when I'd walk in with the goods, Gray was just sweet and happy to see me. He was so cute sitting there in his birthday crown, on cloud 9 just to be six. Life, why can't you stay that simple?

Saturday was his party. Having parties for my kids... well, it is just not my thing. I know that. I know my own personality enough to realize that I am WOUND TIGHT when it comes to events like this. Things must be perfect. I tried my best to talk him into having a birthday party at some venue, but the kid was adamant that he wanted a HOME birthday party. (I asked him why, and he told me "because it is cool." How do you even argue with that?) Against my better judgment, I gave in and we rented a bounce house and invited the whole class and then some.

I swear it took several days of planning and getting the house ready... all for a 6 year old's birthday party. I feel like a total idiot even admitting that. But in the end, it was worth it.

Pizza, cake, ice cream, presents, and bouncing. The perfect day in the life of a six-year old.

How fun! I want to play. That bounce toy might be great for "artists over 50" to let go and open up their creativity!
Happy Birthday Gray! I want to come to your next party. LM
